Oatmeal was a staple ingredient and played its role with other ingredients to make the diet one which was high in fibre and protein and low in sugar and saturated fats. This diet was considered by many to be a healthier diet than today’s diet. Brose, porridge, sowens and peas meal brose are discussed and the method of making the item seen.
